I too am thrilled to read another post, Jake! I love the contrast you draw between novelty/simplicity/constraint on one hand, and routine/complexity/lack of constraint on the other. It makes sense that creativity becomes harder to harness in the second set of conditions. But kudos and thanks to you for writing and sharing all of this exciting news. Infinite Woods sounds compelling in every way, and it's exciting to think of how your summer building project will allow you to confront some of the challenges head on!

Jake, thanks for this great post. My life is finally entering the “simple” cycle to which you refer (in your post) as Jenny and I make our way once again by train from NYC to Birmingham. I am finally catching up on reading I let slide, including your last post. We plan on bicycling across the Mississippi and Arkansas delta region into Little Rock, where we will begin a 500+ mile circle route (mapped by the Adventure Cycling Association) through the Ozarks out of Conway, Arkansas. As usual, we plan on telling a climate story on our blog carbonstories.org related to the journey. We don’t know yet, but we suspect this one will be about water... in our research, we have come to realize this a safe (and critical!) concern of environmentally focused policymakers in red states, since it is still possible to be a clean water champion while ignoring climate change (as long as you trust fracking companies, which I admit is an oxymoron). As to infinite “woulds” I can’t wait to watch your dream unfold. The job of creating the future anew belongs to us all, and of course you have our heartfelt support. Perhaps Jenny and I can join you in Vermont this summer by bicycle from NYC to help you build that solar powered bathhouse? Can’t think of a better way to cleanse one body and spirit!
