Classic description of old school civil service. The sour cream rises to the top.

What a treat: to find another issue of the $7K Omelette, sizzling, hot off the grill and full of spice! Your ability to craft compelling prose, Jake, is a marvel to behold! I am truly sorry to hear about the cold water thrown on the Newton Rebels, but have no doubt that you will find a way to continue this lovely communal practice. Having to reschedule your writer's retreat is also a bummer, but I hope you can lean into the forced rest for what it's worth. I know well the fears that frequent fainting stirs up for those of us in the "Hit the Deck Club," and those around us who witness it. (Your mom may recall the spectacle I made at Uni High when the boys' soccer team sponsored the first-ever blood drive in honor of your dad, and surrounded by first-time donors who I had encouraged to sign up, I managed to faint while fully reclined.) Thank you for continuing to write and share your perspective on so many things!

I agree with my pal Jenny. You are a great storyteller, Jake! As luck would have it, I arrived home (from our mutual Amtrak NOL to NYC adventure) to a seriously deteriorating drain pipe under my kitchen which has kept me in a state of emergency until this very moment. At least I haven’t fainted or been upended by authorities... Thank you for plugging our website “carbonstories.org” and please keep writing. The world needs infinite woods!
